Bakers State Street is Open!

Bakers Shoes on State Street has re-opened after being closed for renovation since February 2011! The new summer collection pops with vibrant color and variety. There’s something for everyone; platforms, flats, wedges and more, all at affordable prices. The H by Halston line is also exclusive to Bakers. If you love accessories, there are plenty to choose from. Handbags to match your shoes, trendy scarves for Chicago’s weather, and “bling” jewelry to complete any fashionista look. Bakers celebrated their State Street grand re-opening with a blogger party hosted by Aramide Esubi from The Sassy Peach.

When I was in high school my mom was the first person to tell me about Bakers Shoes on State Street. She told me how popular the Bakers display window and how it grabbed every one’s attention with fabulous shoes. Bakers Shoes located at 133 S. State St. originally started as Chandlers Shoe’s in 1948, the store was designed by Holabird, Root & Burgee, one of Chicago’s premier architectural firms. The four-story building belongs to a district of more than 100 Loop buildings that are on the National Register of Historic Places. As the building aged over the years, need for repair became obvious. The building’s owner, Joe Sitt, chairman of New York City-based Thor Equities, wanted to update the storefront. I personally preferred the vintage store front; it was unique in our modern city.
